“Throat” is an animation that re-enacts “Work 002”, a performance work by Zhu Tian. When Zhu first performed “Work 002” in 2015, she had just found out that she was pregnant. Not long after the performance, she had a miscarriage. “Throat” was made when she was pregnant again two years later. The title refers to a common belief in Wu Xia (a genre of Chinese fiction concerning martial artists in ancient China), that the throat is the only fatal spot on a human’s body which cannot be trained to withstand attack.
